European Hostel Rooms

As a solo female traveler visiting the US and San Francisco for the very first time, I was naturally a bit nervous. From the moment I arrived, the receptionist Nick completely put my mind at ease and went far above and beyond anything I could have expected. I arrived late at night, and Nick personally came to pick me up right on time. He made sure I felt safe, gave me all the information I needed, and truly looked after me throughout my stay. His warmth, enthusiasm, professionalism, and genuine care were exceptional — easily 5 stars for hospitality. I’m traveling on a tight budget, so I didn’t expect luxury, and the hostel gave me exactly what I paid for: clean, functional facilities that were more than enough for my needs. Everything was fair and transparent — no surprises. Overall, I’m happily giving this hostel a full 5-star review and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone, especially solo travelers or first-timers in the city. If you have any questions or concerns before booking, just reach out to them directly — they’re super helpful and will give you honest, useful advice. A huge thank you again to Nick and the team for making my first days in San Francisco so welcoming and stress-free. The extra effort you all put in really meant a lot to me!

The hostel is just a few minutes’ walk from public transport stops, and the kitchen is well equipped with a fridge, stove, oven, and microwave. Bathrooms are sufficient where customers do not need to queue for it.

If I did like anything I dont remember what it was unfortunately. I will say that everyone's experience is different, I can see some people easily thriving in an environment like this, while others might have a harder time. It's also worth noting this place is not really ment for individuals over the age of 30. I was able to get sleep though so that was nice. I will say if you have issue with sleep here I would just mention it to the staff I'm sure they might be able to help not 100% about that but seems like they might make an effort.

I had a great stay at the European Hostel in San Francisco! The location is very convenient – close to public transportation, shops, and attractions, which made it easy to get around the city. The rooms were simple but comfortable, and the common areas were a nice place to meet other travelers. Everything was kept clean and well-maintained, which made the stay even more pleasant. A special mention goes to Nick at the front desk. He was incredibly welcoming, professional, and always ready to help with any questions or requests. From check-in to check-out, he went out of his way to make sure everything was smooth and that guests felt at home. His friendly attitude really made a big difference in my experience. Overall, I would definitely recommend the European Hostel for anyone visiting San Francisco – great value, convenient location, and outstanding service from the staff, especially Nick!

the rooftop was spectacular ..near civic center...medium sized..homey cabin ...creepy and closed doors too much..common area with sofa and kitchen..seems homey..from a different time ...still functioning..not that they were explaining it...it's a hotel.

Worst place in San Francisco. Run away from here.

I stayed in this Hostel 10 years ago and the front said "things have changed", I was placed in a room where it was obviouse that some people lived there. The clients that seemed ro live there were over run with long term stay lugage, food, trash etc. Let's be honest, it was a shelter for cheap long term stay people. Even the other guests traveling rebooked their stay to another place. This place is a shelter for those who stay for cheap. I was told there was an age limit but met/seen so many others that were older. The front desk person was not into hospitality. The night time person as well. The common eareas were stained & dirty, when the cleaning came they never announced themselves, it was a fly by "cleaning" . Some restrooms were out of order & no amenties like toliet tissie, sope etc. This place is not for the traveler it is now a long cheap stay for those next step homeless.

Location! Free wifi worked well. The towel and sheets they gave were clean.

Extremely Disrespectful and Unsafe Experience – Avoid This Place

The bed was comfortable and shits and blanket to sleep was clean.
